The Intricate World of Marked Deck of Cards

Marked decks are a crucial tool for card magicians. It is a secret weapon that can help you gain an edge in any game of cards.

However, not all marked decks are designed the same. Some decks have markings that are difficult to read or complicated. Some have markings too small to be visible by spectators.

The Story of Marked Decks and Marked Decks

As tricks and magic evolved as did the capability to mark decks of cards. Marked decks are a vital tool for mentalists and magicians, allowing them to create mind-boggling illusions for audiences across the globe. Interestingly enough, marked decks have a rich history that dates all the way to the very beginnings of playing cards. Early markings employed various methods, such as dots and scratches (see Nail Nicking below) that were later replaced with more subtle coded systems. One of the most well-known examples of a coded system was Theodore DeLand’s Dollar Deck, also known as”Stripper Deck” “Stripper Deck”.

A variation in the card’s back design and indexes is yet another popular way to mark decks. These types of decks are commonly referred to as Reader Decks, however they should not be confused with the contemporary openly-readable decks we are seeing today.

The latest trend in marked decks is the addition of a barcode-like marking on the edges of cards. This lets the magician scan the edge of the card using scanners, which will identify the card in question. While some purists may be skeptical of using barcode decks, it is important to remember that all card magic requires deceit. Sometimes, a trick makes an effect more simple to perform and more attractive to your audience.

The Mint 2

The Mint 2 deck was designed by the 52Kards Team to allow magicians secretly to know the worth of each card. It features a complex back design, with an unassuming one-way feature hidden within the pattern. It appears normal for the audience and allows the performer to identify the worth of each card by one glance, even from a distance.

This deck is printed on the USPCC’s premium Bee Casino stock, with an Air Cushion Finish. It is luxurious to hold. It also comes with an ace made to order double backer, as well as Gilding.

It comes with a system that is akin to good marked cards. It is clever enough to fool those who aren’t well-versed in the art of reading, yet easy enough to be used by those who have been trained. It’s also laid out in Mnemonica order, opening an array of possibilities for those who are familiar with this system.

The deck was funded in just 12 minutes on Kickstarter and is a testament of the high-end of both its design and production. Patrick Kun worked closely with the IPO52 team in order to create an visually appealing and practical deck, and the result is nothing short of impressive. This deck will awe anyone who views it. It even comes with a DVD that contains 53 minutes of instruction in detail.

The White Lions

The White Lions Tour Edition is loaded with loads of hidden features which makes this deck ideal for the seasoned professional or a novice. It also has a unique marking system that makes it simple to read from an extended distance. No more squinting or staring at a paper to identify the marks!

The White Lions is a Chapter that does not follow the usual Codex ranks. Their chaplains have the rank of High chaplain, which combines the roles as Chapter Reclusiarchs and Master Of Sanctity. This is a position is not often seen in other Chapters. Their leader, High Chaplain Corin Quinnius is a fervent traditionalist and unwavering supporter of their ancient Zanzibarian war-creeds. He is the most formidable opposer of the reformation movement within the Chapter which he believes to be an open rebellion.

Captain Ancifites Morgancia – The 2nd Company’s Firebrand is a passionate orator who does not appear to shy away from the things he believes. He believes that the Chapter’s recent losses can be attributed to their insistence on traditional and outdated traditions; traditions which committed the bulk of their forces to negotiating peacekeeping talks with the Tau Empire when they ought to be fighting their own, leaving their homeworld of Zanzibar defenseless as the Tyranids closed in.

The White Lions are always ready to strike with measured force when the situation demands it, guided by their eldest battle brothers who have a lot of wisdom. The First Company’s Lion Claws are veteran Assault Marines who are equipped with Lightning Claws in Zanzibar pattern. These fearsome talons can annihilate even the strongest foes with their measured fire, ruthless cutting and years of intense practice.

The Ultimate Marked Deck

Unlike the Maiden Back and Mandolin Decks, this one uses a marking system that is able to only be detected by experienced magicians. Once you are able to recognize the marks, you are able to perform some extremely effective card tricks. The marks are found on the back of the cards close to the edge. The marks aren’t visible to people who are watching and you are able to read them if you tilt the deck to look from the side. This allows you to quickly identify the identifiers on the card, as well as in spreads and fans without having to mark them yourself.

This deck is currently the most marked deck available. It is easy to read, yet difficult to spot. It is also ideal in spreading and fanning situations. The deck comes with an extensive tutorial video that’s 53 minutes, which is surprisingly helpful and comprehensive in the explanation of the system.

This deck is designed for magicians who prefer the Bicycle brand but don’t want to use the Maiden Back or Mandolin Back design. However, it is likely to be the last time it will be produced since the USPCC has now imposed a ban on any gimmicked deck with the Rider Back design.
